Under the topic “Terrorism and the threat posed to International peace and security”, 100 youth delegates from around Sri Lanka simulated the UN General Assembly. The UN Information Centre (UNIC) Colombo was pleased to be a part of the “Interact Model United Nations (IMUN) 2013”, organized by the Interact Club of D.S. Senanayake College at Kingsbury Hotel.

UN Office for Project Service Head, Country Representatives and a Programme Officer from UN Volunteers participated while UNIC Officer-In-Charge Mrs. Kumari Wickramsinghe was the Guest of Honour. After the guests lit the traditional oil lamp, there was a welcome speech by the IMUN Project Chair Person followed by an informative presentation on the UN structure and global work.

As the delegates debated on terrorism, they broke into groups with the challenge of proposing two draft resolutions. After a tasty Sri Lankan meal the delegates presented their draft resolutions. Finally, following much deliberation, the first-ever IMUN resolution on Terrorism was adopted.

The session was conducted in a diplomatic manner. At the closing ceremony, awards were given to three outstanding performers and to the best delegate of the session. With the word of gratitude by the IMUN Project Secretary, the event came to a conclusion.
The event was organized by members of the Interact Club, around 17 and 18 years old and participants were youth ranging in age from 13 to 18. Lanka BPO Academy, Greentel Mobitel and UNIC Colombo co-sponsored of the event.
